Use zstd in mkinitcpio
In this ticket I'd like to collect a few reasons for and/or against using zstd in the profile's mkinitcpio.conf.
With xz:
Build time:
mkarchiso -v 447.77s user 30.32s system 349% cpu 2:16.94 total
Resulting image:
732M out/archlinux-2020.10.31-x86_64.iso
Boot time
(measured externally from pressing enter on the bootloader screen to the first prompt)
- BIOS: 15.93s
- UEFI: 15.54s
With zstd:
Build time:
mkarchiso -v 452.91s user 29.31s system 657% cpu 1:13.38 total
Resulting image:
742M out/archlinux-2020.10.31-x86_64.iso
Boot time
(measured externally from pressing enter on the bootloader screen to the first prompt)
- BIOS: 13.16s
- UEFI: 12.93s
