Use "ArchLinux" as the default WSL distribution name
Dear Arch Linux Developers,
I have a suggestion regarding the default name for the Arch Linux distribution in WSL. Could we use "ArchLinux" (with capital A and L) instead of the all-lowercase "archlinux" as the default name?
I'm suggesting this for the following reasons:
- Official Branding: Arch Linux consistently uses "Arch Linux" (capital A and L) as its official name, both on the official website (archlinux.org) and on Wikipedia. This is the widely recognized and accepted naming convention.
- Consistency with Other WSL Distributions: Most other official WSL distributions, with the exception of Kali Linux, use their commonly known names with standard capitalization (e.g., Debian, Oracle Linux), as seen in Microsoft's distribution list: https://github.com/microsoft/WSL/blob/master/distributions/DistributionInfo.json
- Visual Appearance: After installation, "ArchLinux" looks more visually consistent and aesthetically pleasing than the all-lowercase "archlinux" in places like the Windows Terminal and the Start Menu.
While I am aware that the distribution name can be customized using the --name
parameter during wsl --install
, I would still appreciate it if "ArchLinux" could be set as the default name.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
