I have checked that the idea is not directly tied to a specific project For example: "Show label icons in the package overview web page" must be a feature request in the ArchWeb repository -
I have carefully checked this idea is not already covered by any open or closed ideas. -
I understand that I hold no copyright claims and that this idea can be adapted and used by Arch Linux in any arbitrary shape or form.
Summary
Making donation links available in the package's details, like a field you can see on pacman -Si packagename
Motivation
This would make users more mindful about donations on the programs they use or like.
Specification
A field in pacman's package details would suffice. Another mechanism would be making them 'chainable' with a program or script so you could make a single donation and that would be split to the receivers.
I wrote this 'issue' (more an idea) after the n-th 'buy a Mac' instead of using Windows, as Linux is mostly free of changes (not talking about you, RHEL) but people instead of using it and accept some quirks or defects that every OS has, they value it as cheap and useless, instead spending $1000+ for a computer branded by Apple.
I say, put that open software you use is valued 1/10 of the equivalent Mac one, would you spend that donating to open source projects so they can grow?
And for those that say, 'but Photoshop, but Office, but Autocad', first you have to pay the license (and many don't - e.g. Bill Gates said he preferred a pirate installation of Windows instead of a regular installation of Linux), then, if you don't need the latest-latestest version you may buy and virtualize it under Windows, as it's cheap to buy a license or it's even free of change (Windows 10 being unable to change wallpaper and theme, but it's the only limitation).
