Starting with 2023.05.03, archlinux iso is missing airootfs.sfs.sig

Looking at http://mirrors.edge.kernel.org/archlinux/iso/2023.05.03/arch/x86_64/ - it seems the airootfs.sfs.sig has disappeared, only the airootfs.sfs.cms.sig exists, but this is not compatible with tools such as netboot.xyz

For what purpose? The initramfs validates the rootfs image when using the cms_verify=y kernel command line option.

thanks for your quick response. I'm having issues booting from netboot.xyz due to the verify=y feature which is enabled by default. Shall I make a PR to change that into cms_verify @ https://github.com/netbootxyz/netboot.xyz/blob/4f51494b12f1099ae1e8a7e170569ed969c75c93/roles/netbootxyz/templates/menu/archlinux.ipxe.j2#L39 ?

Yes, please do. It's very unlikely we'll ever move back to gpg signatures for the rootfs image.
