Cinnamon no longer prompts for root access when running GUI programs.
Description:
Running nemo as root has been broken for awhile from the Cinnamon context menu. (that breakage might be from my backup solution not restoring a file correctly; however, there is this post from 2018 about Arch breaking this feature in Cinnamon. Might be related) Typically, the polkit password prompt for requesting root access would pop up, and then nothing would happen.
But, with the update to 6.4 Cinnamon I can no longer start any program with root privileges graphically. You don't even get the password entry window anymore from Polkit. I have to run them from a terminal with sudo now.
Additional info:
Trying to run nemo and gparted should work for testing. Let's you test if the nemo "open as root" option is broken in the right click menu, or running gparted from the start menu is.
I don't see any errors in the Looking Glass logs. Are there any log files you'll need?
- package version(s): 6.4.6
Steps to reproduce:
- Install Cinnamon
- Install a gui program requiring root access. (nemo / gparted)
- Run nemo/gparted from the Cinnamon start menu.
