Krita crashes on animation file (*.kra) open

Description:

When opening relatively large (~60 MB) animation file (*.kra), krita crashes 100%. Upstream build (AppImage) opens the same file with no issues, though. I'm attaching kcrash log (with debug symbols loaded) and console output. I could provide an example file to reproduce the issue, if necessary.

This is an assert. It's not reproducible with the appimage because it's likely compiled with DNDEBUG, but it is still an upstream issue that needs to be fixed there.

Thanks Antonio, it makes a perfect sense. I had a look at krita PKGBUILD (and rebuild it from source just in case). It looks pretty straightforward therefore I assume the upstream should be the same more or less. What was confusing to me is the AppImage works with no [visible] issues.

So I'll try to catch it somehow in upstream version and report there.

P.S. I'm just wondering if you know if there a way to trace it down (other than strace+gdb)? I guess with no debug info and asserts it might be a bit tricky...

If I understand correctly, probably the Arch package is missing the MLT plugin which is currently in the 3rdparty/ folder and built as part of our deps tree (as a fork of upstream MLT), instead of being in the main source tree. MR 2032 is relevant, but technically this is still an issue with the upstream Arch package. I am not sure what's the temporary fix though.

@Emmet, is the Qt playback engine still here and can distro packages enable it instead?

Yeah, so that's basically saying there's nothing we can do until the MR is merged. They are using a forked version of MLT which is not available in their source tarball. Unfortunately, krita is a very distro-unfriendly project.
