Sudden drop in frame rate in 6.13.3 and 6.13.4 (kworker processess randomly start to hog CPU resources)
Description:
When just using my computer or even if its left in a idle state, there will be a sudden drop in frame rate that will persist till the system is rebooted.
This isn't just some graphical issue. Even when I kill my graphical environment and return to tty, the frame drop still persists.
During such scenarios one of the kworker process seems to hog majority of cpu resources and after it terminates another kworker process takes it place.
It looks something like this:
this problem was available in 6.12.7 also so I had shifted my entire system back to 2025-01-01 after that them problem seemed to have be solved in 6.13.2 but is now back in 6.13.3. Here is the link to our discussions in Arch Linux Forums: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=302615 this problem seems to have been back-ported to the lts-kernel also now.
Also all of us who are facing this problem seem to have an AMD system,(I don't know if its a CPU or GPU problem).
A person by name Harry seems to have mitigated this problem by passing following kernel parameters:
amdgpu.sg_display=0 amdgpu.dcdebugmask=0x10
Additional info:
- package version(s): 6.13.3-arch1-1 and 6.13.4-arch1-1
My hardware info:
- Model: ASUS TUF Gaming A16 FA617XS (1.0)
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS w/ Radeon 780M Graphics (16) @ 5.26 GHz
- GPU 1: AMD Radeon RX 7600S [Discrete]
- GPU 2: AMD Radeon 780M [Integrated]
- Memory: 14.85 GiB
Steps to reproduce:
- Step 1 : boot up your system
- Step 2 : And then wait, there seems to be no particular action that immediately triggers the bug
