GPU not properly recognized after booting X

Description:

After updating to nvidia-dkms 560.35.03-17 my three monitors are not recognized anymore and no GPU shows up in nvidia-settings nor the xfce monitor settings manager. Downgrading nvidia-dkms and nvidia-utils to 560.35.03-16 fixes the problem.

As far as I can tell the nvidia module is loaded without problems:

Additional info:

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980
  • linux-zen
  • Up to date system otherwise.
  • I use /etc/modprobe.d/nvidia.conf with these settings: modeset=1 fbdev=0

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Booting into tty1 works normally
  2. I manually start xfce with startxfce4
  3. X boots but with a resolution of 1024x768
  4. Two monitors show the same output, while one is off
