NVIDIA Open drivers lack good power management for Turing GPUs
Description:
With release of NVIDIA 590 driver, Arch Linux decided to switch main packages to Open Kernel Modules and remove support for closed source kernel modules.
However NVIDIA Open drivers don't yet support power management for NVIDIA Turing cards, which is a known issue (Source 1), (Source 2), (Source 3). As a result NVIDIA Turing cards have huge power draw when using NVIDIA Open driver, which is especially noticeable and problematic on laptops. Until the aforementioned GitHub issues are resolved, the recommendation is to use NVIDIA closed source drivers instead. (This is also documented and recommended on Arch Linux Wiki)
Please do you think it would be possible to still provide also NVIDIA Closed source drivers, alongside the NVIDIA Open drivers, until the NVIDIA Open drivers implements support for power management of the NVIDIA Turing cards?
