Kernel panic/system crash during boot when Plymouth is active
Description:
Plymouth appears to crash under certain conditions on boot/shutdown. This appeared to happen after an update which bumped systemd from 255.5.4 -> 255.6.1 and the kernel from 6.8.9.arch1-2 -> 6.9.1.arch1-1.
After an update where systemd was updated from 255.6.1 -> 255.6.2 and the kernel was updated from 6.9.1.arch1-1 -> 6.9.2.arch1-1 the issue was improved somewhat, it went from crashing on most reboots to only crashing if I attempted to plug in my peripherals while the computer was booting. Because of this, it may be the case that there is an underlying systemd or kernel issue that is triggering the crash.
The boot works fine if I omit quiet splash
from my kernel parameters.
Because the crash happens before I enter my password there do not seem to be any relevant logs, however there is a core dump I have attached.
