Hunspell dictionaries for Italian are rather old, newer dictionaries exist from a different provider
Description:
The Italian dictionaries provided in the hunspell-it
package are rather old. In fact, they come from https://sourceforge.net/projects/linguistico/ where the last update to them goes back to 2007. That repository seems to have been completely frozen in 2011.
In the meantime, Italian dictionaries for hunspell have kept being refined under the stewardship of LibreOffice/LibreItalia, so that much more up to date dictionaries are available at https://github.com/LibreOffice/dictionaries/tree/master/it_IT. As a matter of fact, the last update there is from Nov 2022.
I would like to suggest updating to the LibreOffice/LibreItalia maintained dictionaries. The older Linguistico dictionaries may possibly become a hunspell-it-linguistico package in the AUR in case someone needs them (maintenance would be close to null, being that there is no upstream maintenance from linguistico and that the dictionaries are not dependent on any library).
Note that this is not strictly about an out-of-date package (that generally requires only a flag), rather a suggestion to use sources from a different provider for the package. If the suggestion is accepted, the package version would get bumped up to 5.1.1.
Doing the opposite is also possible: if my suggestion is not accepted, I'll make a hunspell-it-libreitalia package in the AUR, but it seems less convenient.
