As indicated in the original bug report [1] the issue is specific to the
Nvidia drivers, which have been fixed back in 2019.

Omit the `rm -rf` - packages are build with `--clean` and/or
`--cleanbuild`.

Move the builddir creation where applicable, consistently quote both cd
and mkdir commands.
