Improve README to be clear on purpose and status of project

As the larger part of the README currently still holds PoC information from way back in 2019, it needs to be upgraded to give a clear picture of the current state of the project, its purpose and goals.

To upload designs, you'll need to enable LFS and have an admin enable hashed storage. More information
